Scooter Becomes Christmas Baby!

In a bold move early in December, Scooter's humans decided to assign him a birthday once and for all.  As many of you may remember, his real birthday is unknown, as is his exact age. Estimated to be "approx. 1 year" at the shelter, vet Dr. Geri guessed in August that he was actually older, perhaps by a good bit. In an arbitrary decision, Beck & Al decided to make Scoot part of the holidays with an official Christmas Day Birthday, & have set his current age at 2. While this may still be somewhat inaccurate, the unknown has been summarily removed from the situation by adding a full 6 months to the original estimate, in deference to Dr. Geri's professional opinion, in order to choose a current value from which to start calculating his age. Kudos & congratulations to Scooter on having acquired a fine birthday to celebrate at last!!

Mr. Binkerson spent his combined birthday/holiday quietly at home with his humans, and was treated to a large bowl of milk and a number of presents to mark the occasion (see photos below). A fine time was had by all! Sources close to the family say they are not surprised at this sudden decision to combine the two commemorative events. Becky & Al have long celebrated "HoneyFest" in late June every year, making an extended holiday out of the Summer Solstice, their Wedding Anniversary, and Becky's Birthday (June 20th/21st, 23rd, and 24th, respectively). Scoot's new birthday expands similarly on the observation of Beck's late Dad's Birthday (Dec. 18th), the Winter Solstice (Dec. 20th), and Christmas Eve/Day celebrations. The family also keeps an Advent Calendar from Dec. 1st, observes St. Nicholas Eve/Day on the 5th/6th, and of course celebrates New Year's at the end of it all. (Let's hear it for month-long partying & fun!!) A Merry Merry Ho Ho Ho was had by all this year!

Some holiday pix:

Hey, everywhere we went in Key West (to see the Nutcracker et al.) we kept seeing these kinds of signs--do you think Scoot's leading a secret life we don't know about, LOL???

Scoot with a Christmas bow (& Beck's foot)!!

Playing with his new "Quick Draw McPaw" toy (a big hit!)...

And sacked out with Santa afterwards....wheew!

Lots O'Lynx

Here are some fun links Scoot & Beck have found on the net to thinks catty. Enjoy!

Scoot's own vanity site! www.freewebs.com/scootbinkerson/ Very unfinished, but showing the potential of Mr. Binkerson's internet presence, LOL! Thinking of a blog or similar page to archive all of the Scoots newsletters as well...keep checking at www.bedufford.biz, Beck's business site.

One of the best places for all around pet shopping, they have a wide selection of almost everything you need, with prompt delivery & good prices.

Cat Faeries, www.catfaeries.com/
Specializing in Flower Essences for healthy pets and people, including Feliway, which can sometimes help curb urine spraying--a cute site.

Kitty Hoots, www.kittyhoots.com/
Really neat site with wonderful toys and products. Not the best about responding to contest entries, but cute cat toys, family made...

One of the sillier things you've seen this week, & NOT necessarily endorsed by Scoot (who still has reservations about being scanned!), this site is dedicated to pix made by placing your cat on your flatbed scanner & hitting "start!" (They do caution not to let the light shine directly into the kitty's eyes, thank goodness!) WARNING--adult language & humor is the norm here!

Like Cat Faeries, one of many, many good advice sites on pet care from a natural or alternative healthcare perspective.

Woof and Meow Shoppe, www.woofandmeowshoppe.com/
Just another great place to shop! It's amazing the people out there who just LOVE their companion animals!

A really interesting site for a company specializing in "eco-friendly solutions for everyday life," it features a lot of stuff unrelated to pets, but includes a line of pet toys made of recycled materials. Scooter's all-time fave, the Wildstreak Wand, is made by these folks, so our undying thanks to them!

Marathon Veterinary Hospital, www.marathonvethospital.com/
Scooter's vet (he usually sees young Dr. Matt), where he is alternatively known as "Scooter Dufford, Feline."

Pet Care Solutions, www.petcaresolutions.com/
A more mainstream source of pet care info and products.

Schnauzer Ware, www.schnauzerware.com/
Just a little equal time for those of us who also love dogs! Schnauzers (especially minis) are a fave of Becky's, so here's a fun page of schnauzer stuff, jes fer sumthin' different!

Stay tuned for more photo links to Ofoto (or somewhere...) for more Keys Christmas sights, etc.
