The Cruise
Ship
radiant
against the blue-black sky and sea,
a moon
sailing by, limned in luminescence;
a snowy egret
with secret sunlight,
a white shell
filled with candles.
Stars echoed
it, but cooler by far:
snow sparkle
next to a vast floating luminaria,
a paper lamp
escaped
from its Obon
festival.
